There are always changes to Google’s search algorithm, however many people do not keep up with the changes and wonder why their marketing plans do not work as intended. There are lots of things we need to be aware of now we are into a new year for Google search.
- Local search is important – if we have a national business, we cannot always target purely national search phrases – it is often a good idea to target specific locations, as Google ranks sites by location as well as through keywords.
- Mobile devices count – it is vital that your site works well on mobile devices, as more people than ever are searching and browsing using their phones instead of standard computers. Make sure yours is working correctly and is fully responsive!
- Paid search is not the best option – we are increasingly made to feel by Google that paid search (PPC) is the be all and end all of internet marketing. Although it can work wonders in the short term for some businesses, it is certainly not ideal to be used on a long term basis. It can be handy to boost customer clicks and potential sales, but only if set up correctly and fully optimised for the right audience.
